 New 1934 Phaeton Is Here

The new 1934 Phaeton built for the Street Rodder Magazine Road Tour is now on display at Sacramento Vintage Ford. That's Mick from Roadster Ute in Australia, in the drivers seat in front of Sacramento Vintage.

The under construction photo shows the body after the bare steel had been clear-coated. Brian Brennan with Street Rodder is on the phone in the background.

In the May 2008 issue of Street Rodder, they introduced the '34 phaeton from Kelvin Waddington's Australian Ute Company (see the May '08 issue of STREET RODDER for a full report) that they were building to drive to various summertime events and to tag along with Jerry Dixey on a few of the Road Tour legs.

Roadster Ute's endeavor, is a body based on the American 1933-34 Ford phaeton. In fact, due to its namesakes relative rarity and desirability, one could make the case that this is a body long overdue. These bodies are exported directly to America, distributed through several well- known American rod shops, including Sacramento Vintage Ford, and available for American money ($19,950 as of this writing).

With a few alterations to appeal to the hot rod and street rod market, "It's identical to an original `34 Ford," Kelvin explained.

Modifications aside, this is a body that accepts all stock external body components. To prove the claim, Kelvin assembled a body with U.S. made fenders, hood, running boards, and one of the grilles similarly tooled in Australia. While not part of the body package, "They're available through our agents that sell our bodies," Kelvin said.

In short, this body represents one of the milestones in the reproduction body market. It was designed with the intentions of the common rodder in mind, it's built exceptionally well, as this bare-metal example illustrates, and it's available right now at Sacramento Vintage Ford.
And Kelvin just told Darold the Street Rodder Road Tour Phaeton is For Sale. (If you have an interest, please send an email to news@vintageford.com) (Courtesy Street Rodder Magazine / Chris Shelton)

 McMullen Roadster Visit

Tom Vogele (Street Rodder Magazine), Darold Kohout (Sacramento Vintage) and Jerry Dixey (Street Rodder Magazine) with the M2000 McMullen Roadster at Sacramento Vintage during the Street Rodder Magazine Road Tour.

If the name, Tom Vogele sounds familiar, Tom was the Editor of Street Rodder Magazine for 10 years and was then promoted to Vice President of Primedia's Street Rod and Performance Group until he retired in 2006. At one time Tom worked for Boyd Coddington and is a fantastic machinist and mechanic.

The '32 was driven 25,000 miles by Jerry Dixey on the 1997 Road Tour which was Street Rodders Magazines 25th Anniversary. Jerry and the '32 attended all 11 NSRA events around the country that year.

It is without a doubt one of the most recognized street rods in history. From album covers to magazine covers, the McMullen Roadster has been seen and admired by millions over the years. Originally built in the 1950s, the '32 highboy roadster was acquired by Tom McMullen in 1958. Tom added the signature flames, blown small-block, and Moon tank ... and the rest is hot rod history! Over the years, Tom built two reincarnations of his famous roadster. The one built in 1975 was dubbed the Ultimate Highboy. It was a modern version of the roadster with all the tricks of the time. In 1991 Tom decided to duplicate the 1963 version of his famous roadster. It was history recreated.

With his untimely death, the legend of Tom McMullen and his famous roadster lived on in the pages of STREET RODDER. In 1997 (to celebrate the 25th anniversary of SRM), Lobeck's V-8 Shop in Cleveland, Ohio, was commissioned to build a 1963 version of the flamed roadster.

Click on the photo above to read the article on the creation of the M2000 McMullen Roadster build.

Sacramento Vintage Catalog Meets A Wood Chipper

OK......This is pretty neat, and yet, kinda sad........

Good Day Sacramento, KMAX-31 was doing a morning show showing the operation of one of the big wood chippers and invited viewers to come by the location and give them items to throw into the chipper.

The remote 'host' was a very distant relative of host , Mark S. Allen?

Well this nice young lady heard they were talking about old Fords and had a 'manual' they could shred.

Well, there it went, on national TV, our 820 page Model A Parts Catalog! .....and just like that, it was gone.

But it was pretty cool........and kinda sad!

We wanted to have the video segment in this newsletter, but just ran out of time.

Thanks to the viewers who called us and gave us a heads up!

 Bertolucci's Body & Fender Shop

(Top photo) Dick Bertolucci and Darold Kohout out front during the NSRA & PPG/Street Rodder Magazine BBQ. Yes....Dick drove his Chevy, but it is a really nice Chevy! ........ Mr. and Mrs. Bertolucci have a LOT of Chevrolets!

The photo at their shop was in celebration of Bertolucci's Body and Fenders 60th Anniversary in the Sacramento area.

And if that was not exciting enough they also won a Best Of Sacramento Award for the Best Mom and Pop Auto Body Shop

Richard Bertolucci started this family owned and operated auto body shop 60 years ago, and there are plenty of people who have been loyal to it for just as long. It's not just the attention to detail in making banged-up cars look like new that keeps them coming back, say customers, but the way the Bertolucci family treats everyone like family.

Now if I could only remember how to correctly spell Bertolucci and Tognotti.............

Own The American Graffiti Cop Car Recreation.......

Every American Graffiti fan knows this hilarious scene all too well and almost from the time Cruisin' The Boulevard was formed in 2005, they have dreamed of re- creating it. Well, the dream finally came true around 5am on Thursday, May 15, 2008.

For those of you who don't already know, Henry Travers was the film's transportation manager. He was the "car boss" and was responsible for having all of the specialty cars used in the film built according to George Lucas' specifications. He also drove the Deuce and the '55 Chevy in the drag racing scenes.

The car is FOR SALE with or without the 292 V8 motor and transmission, but does include the bent rear axle, Super Chief Siren and dual red light beacons. It has a newly upholstered front bench seat, but only the backrest of the back seat. It does not include the City of Petaluma police department seals on the sides of the doors, but does have the rest of the decals. If you wish, they can have seals custom made for you.

If you are interested in purchasing it, please call John at (707) 762-3394 or email john@americangraffiti.net.

Take A Kid To A Car Show!

Life is full of choices for kids. You can help them make the right ones by sharing your appreciation for cool old cars!

There have been countless studies done to prove it, but virtually everyone knows that spending quality time with a kid is the greatest gift you can give them. And sharing your appreciation for collector cars is a great way to nurture their interest in a hobby that you can enjoy together for many years to come.

We are all constantly reminded of a kids need to express themselves. What better way to help them do that, than to nurture their appreciation for an interesting collector vehicle?

 Detroit Street Rods

We spotted this very nice 1932 Ford Roadster in our parking lot during the Street Rodder Magazine / NSRA BBQ at our store.

And ......we saw it again during the National Street Rod Association, Golden State Nationals at the Cal Expo Fairgrounds in Sacramento.

Robert Smith (President, Detroit Street Rods) was kind enough to show Darold and Lynn how the top folds away in just seconds and all the details of this new steel roadster.

The 'Deuce,' America's quintessential hot rod.

Detroit Street Rods, LLC is exclusively offering the officially licensed, Limited Edition 1932 Ford 75th Anniversary Deuce.

The official Ford Deuce will be limited to 100 production vehicles and will be distributed through Ford Racing Performance and Ford Motor Company Dealers.

Each Anniversary car is based on the highly acclaimed and award-winning Dearborn DeuceTM convertible that combines the beauty of Ford's original design with contemporary technology in the form of a fully-integrated, completely concealed convertible top with electric side windows. This precisely detailed, all steel body is mated to a sophisticated, rigid chassis, a Ford 9" solid rear axle with four-link suspension, and a traditional dropped I- beam front suspension.

At the heart of the driveline is the Ford Racing Performance's new 'Boss 302' with an AOD (automatic transmission with overdrive) for a vehicle that's clearly a standout in performance, looks, and exclusivity.
